I've istalled Mint 8 on my dell e4300 laptop: everything works fine except the fans which are always active...for instance in this moment the top command gives the following:
1325 root 20 0 102m 34m 14m R 11 1.0 0:49.56 Xorg
2280 user 20 0 358m 117m 30m R 9 3.4 1:51.84 firefox
2183 user 20 0 72044 27m 7860 S 3 0.8 0:06.72 compiz.real

and the fans are running...don't understand why
