[Fixed] Apple Keyboard

Postby goatgonads on Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:55 pm

Hello all, loving Linux Mint. First time poster, long time reader. Keyboard question below.

I have an apple keyboard, and of course the function keys do not function as I am accustomed. So I found this workaround to make them function like normal keys.

1. Edit or create the file /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf, e.g.:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf
2. Add this line to the previously open file.
options hid_apple fnmode=2
3. Save the file and execute the following command to notify hid_apple module to reload it's configuration.
sudo update-initramfs -u

Now that I have done that, is there a way to make the f9-f12 keys work with their original "apple" design of being volume buttons? Before I figured out the aforementioned fix, I got used to using them, and would like to get them back.

Any tips would be appreciated. (Version = Helena)

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Good find (hid_apple.conf)
Have you tried Keyboard shortcuts - you can set the keys to use for volume there
Sorry if this is obvious

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

That fixed it, sometimes the most obvious places are the last you look.

Thanks again.
