Hello, I am having difficulty setting up UDMA on my SATA hard drive and my IDE (I think, uses ribbon cable) DVD drives. I am a newcomer to Linux, having switched from XP, I know no commands, so a GUI way would be great! I can only find instructions that are barely english ...I rip DVD's ALOT,so UDMA on my DVD drives would be great! I understand the risks of this operation, but it is very important to me. (I have the installation CD ready, and back up my hard drive onto USB drives so...) Please help...I love linux, and it is faster than XP!
Detailed Step by Step procedure would be nice!
(not sure if it is UDMA or just DMA...)
Thanks!!!
My machine is:
Dell Dimension E310 (3100)
Pentium 4 processor (3.20 Ghz with hyperthreading enabled)
80 GB hard drive (Seagate) Model # ATA ST380819AS
512MB of RAM (2GB swap partition on USB 2.0 memory stick PRO DUO)
Linux mint 8 "Helena"
UDMA for SATA drive (LM 8 "Helena")

Re: UDMA for SATA drive (LM 8 "Helena")
As far as I know this is enabled by default in kernels past 2.6.25 or there abouts so you should not have to do anything
