Hello all,
Does anyone know or had the same problem with installing any linux distro on a Asus N90S laptop ? i tried about all the Mint distro's, the latetst Ubuntu even the alpha 10, they all at some point , during openning a prog or running synaptic, freeze the laptop completely, the only thing that works than is the power button and kill it.
The Win 7 on a different partition has no problems...The most stable Linux that i tried was Pardus 2009.1 but has sadly not all the apps i need, it also locks up sometime but seldom.
The Asus N90S has a , 4 Gb ram, Nvidia graphic card, intel cpu,
During installation no problem with one of the distro's only after
Any hints ?
Thanks a lot

Try using acpi=off in the boot options. To do this see here

Thanks for the reply,
I have just tried this, with the "acpi=off" no help. now install does not even finish, it stops some where in the download off the language packs ( internet connection is ok)
Previous install attemps did end the instalation, but afterwards trying to use synaptic did lock up the whole laptop.
During the live cd or dvd there is no problem , and everything works fine,
I tried :
Mint 8 X64
Mint 8 X86 Gnome an KDE
Ubuntu 9.10
Sabayon 5.1 X64 Gnome and KDE
Sabayon 5.1 X86 Gnome and KDE
Pardus 2009.1 ( wich did locked up only 1 time, also trying to use the packet manager)
They all did lock up at some point,
al distro's md5 were fine, and they did install and work fine on another pc
Strangly the Win 7 OS works without problems,
maybe i should erase the complete disk and install everything again....
anyone please ?
thanks
Re: Asus n90s hangs
Hi,
@Remoulder
found out myself that it was an issue with a wrong chosen "audio device" , the laptop sits with Pardus2009.1 on this moment, it took "Pulse Audio" as a sound device, changed to "Pulse Audio Server" and the freezes are over now.
System log gave a good direction were to look for. And also the fact that Elive did never freeze it up ,together with the "no sound" issue on this distro.....
Silly bug in the kernel i think

ps where do i change this post as "solved"
