Lenova Z61m Mint 8 Disable touchpad

Hi. My notepad has a "trackpoint" and a "touchpad". With Mint 7, I could disable the "touchpad" in the "Mouse Preferences" function.
Upgrading to Mint 8 I have a similar window and am able to disable the "touchpad" there, but it doesn't do it.

I have to go back to Mint 7 as I can't stand to work with the touch pad
Thanks
pete

Look for something called gpointing-device-settings in Package Manager (Synaptic).

Why don't you disable it in the bios? I do this with my T61. :)

thanks I shall try both suggestions, but I don't know how to do it in the "bios".
Also. since it works fine in mint 7, I had hoped that it would be fixed by now in 8.
Thanks again

You enter the system bios by hitting the thinkpad button on a cold boot and then hitting F2 when the thinkpad menu comes up. Somewhere in the bios is an option to use both trackpoint and the trackpad and to disable one or the other.
