Genius f610 pen tablet not functioning

Cursor tracks out of the box and I can even get tooltips when I "mouse" over objects but I cannot interact with anything [click, draw, etc.]
Linux Mint 8 KDE [CE edition I think, if that matters] 64bit
KDE Info Center sees the tablet like so:

already tried installing an aiptek driver as well as a wizardpen driver via instructions I found on the ubuntu forums but the aiptek driver did not change functionality at all and the wizardpen installation was a failure
hope I included all relevant information, first time I've ever posted on a forum

There's a really long thread here - I have not read more than the first page - but there is a solution in post # 2 and 3
The files mentioned are located in /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty and you need of course to be root to change the name
I don't have a wizardpen.fdi so you need to check on that
