Logitech Clearchat Headset No Sound

Post by WinXpNewb »

The volume controller works and registers in Mint but no sound except in a gargling soft tone when sound capture is switched to OSS.

I'm following this guide but I'm not sure if I should go ahead with this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578
sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugins padevchooser libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio
because it gives this message:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
libsdl1.2debian-alsa
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio

Should I do it anyway?

...btw Mint 7 Gloria

Not enough context/data for software
What software are you connecting with, which application is being used for chat with that device; does the cleartext headset work otherwise, when nit using some chat/IM service
Those kind of questions...
You told use what you are tried doing, but not exactly what the problem is..(ref above questions)

I don't know which part of the OSS in that guide you want to use or why, since you have a choice of
  • Pulseaudio
  • Alsa
  • OSS
--newest sound system selection to oldest, in that order
Sure, should be OK

All the install is doing is switching the underlying libraries from alsa to pulseaudio for sound
--since pulseaudio is the default sound server in Ubuntu, that shouldn't be a problem

If there is still a sound issue, then either keep working on the pulseaudio setup/configuration options you wish to enable or seek other choices, such as using alsa only

You might be better checking for problems with that device for sound, rather than checking for sound issues, either in these forums (use search for logitech clearchat) or Ubuntu or on the Internet

  • And make sure the physical wiring for the jacks/ports is correct..for the logitech cleartext

Sorry, I'd provided more details but I don't really have a special need.

I'm just using the headset as a replacement speaker and I don't really care if chat works as long as I can hear sounds coming off of movies, music and most everywhere else.

I also didn't scan the entire guide. I thought it was given that I was trying to get it to work with PulseAudio.

As for the two links, neither one really gave a clue except someone made a comment on making it work using pulseaudio which I don't really know how to do.

I went ahead and followed the instructions but now I'm stuck at this point:

Note: If you are greeted with the error "Connection failed: Connection refused", manually launch PulseAudio before opening the PulseAudio Volume Control application:
pulseaudio & pavucontrol
Even when I try the command above, I still get Connection failed: Connection refused.

I went ahead and maxed volumed everything in the alsa mixer but still no dice.
