Automatically changing soundcards?

Hi there,

I run Mint on my laptop. When out and about, I use the internal speak, but when at home I like to use an external USB soundcard (a Griffin iMic). Everything works fine: Mint detects and recognizes the sound card just fine, and with it connected I can swap between internal and external sound. However, it's a bit of a drag having to open Sound Preferences every time I get home and change the output to the external card. Is there any way to script/automate this? I'm still relatively new to Linux so although I can find my way around the command line I'm not sure how to automatically detect the external soundcard being connected to USB, and from there to change the sound settings.

Any help gratefully received!

Ian

Not that I'm aware of but have a play with pulseaudio manager and device chooser, which may not be installed

Code: Select all

apt install paman padevchooser
