I want to buy a new scanner

I want to buy a new scanner. I usually use newegg to buy from but cannot find any of their scanners listed as supported on http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html

does anyone have a recommendations?

Not recommendations for a specific scanner, but check against the sane list. I have also heard that HP printers and scanners generally work well with LINUX

I see that some time has elapsed since your post and I don't know what type of scanner you may need but I have an HP MFC 3050 which scans quite well under Ubuntu and Mint. I believe I paid about $250 US for it. But if you are looking for a flatbed it is a sheet-fed scanner. I should add that it is USB only.
