failure to burn dvds

Post by standi »

Hello I am new to Linux and I think its great but I just have one problem. Whenever i have tried to burn a DVD I get an error. I have tried reducing the speed but no effect.

I have a Toshiba satellite L-500 11v
I am running Linux mint 8

using brasero
the error says

DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not found

I have tried using k3b and when using that i get success but the disc in blank. the log for that is

it sounds like you might not have user-level permission to write to the drive.

what is the output of:

ls -lh /dev/sr0

and

ls -lh /dev/dvd*

Not sure if i did what you wanted but on the terminal I got the following

standi@standi-laptop ~ $ ls -lh /dev/sr0
brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2010-03-12 17:22 /dev/sr0
standi@standi-laptop ~ $
standi@standi-laptop ~ $ ls -lh /dev/dvd*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-03-12 17:22 /dev/dvd -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-03-12 17:22 /dev/dvdrw -> sr0

hope this helps

Re: failure to burn dvds

Post by BrianD »

well, it does and it doesn't... :wink:

it indicates that the block device (/dev/sr0) and the symbolic link (/dev/dvd) have the proper permissions, so that's not the issue...

I've never had any issue with burning, ever, so I really can't see anything that stands out. Sorry. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction. Cheers.

Think you missed the point, which was there appears to be a bug with some burners when burning 4.7GB DVD's. There are other suggestions besides the swap.
