Wireless Great with W7, Drops Out with default install Mint8

Postby xnostradamusx on Wed Mar 31, 2010 6:06 am

When this laptop is booted into Windows 7, it gets good, solid wireless connections which can last all day. When booted to mint, the signal strength meter starts strong, fades to weak, and after about 5 minutes, the connection is lost. Near as I can tell, the only way to get wireless re-connected is to reboot the OS.

lspci shows Network controller: Atheros Communications AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

copied from the ubuntu forum cause i got the same problem with this guy and im sure it fixed my problem

Code: Select all
sudo aptitude install linux-backports-modules-wireless-karmic-generic

but problem is its installing another kernel and i see it after i reboot my computer.

is there any other way in mint 8 to solve this rather than using this solution?
~cheers~

I know this is not the same problem, but you might like to try the suggested solution:

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=42600&p=259543&hilit=network+manager+ppa#p259543

It is simple to do and may well help with the symptoms you are having.

If using the backport modules and new kernel works, I would use them.
