Sound Card not identified by system

When I installed Mint 8 I had a PCI sound board (CMedia) and sound function on the motherboard (VIA) identified by the system.

I removed the CMedia PCI board from the computer but now there is NO sound board identified on my system as reported by the Control Panel-->Hardware-->Sound.

The sound function of the motherboard works fine on Puppy Linux and XP (multi boot).

What do I do to get the VIA function identified?

type lspci in a terminal...see if you sound card is listed here...if not enable the sound card from bios setting at computer power on... still no result then...
goto settings.. computer administration... multimedia...device preference... change the device priority...

see if it works... if not show me the output for lspci command...

I can find no 'settings no computer administration. . . . etc., but can see Administration but there is no multimedia listed.
