DVD: Original DVD ok, no blank DVD

Post by maurelio79 »

Hello everyone, just use Linux Mint Helena and I have a problem with the DVD: i can read the original DVD, but when I insert a blank DVD for burning, is not detected, I tried brasero and Xfburn, but I always says "No DVD".

I have an Asus X59SLSeries

I note that with a single CD does not seem to have any problems. DVDs, both -R and -RW are good, considering that on another PC with Debian I burned them.

In your opinion, what's the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Are you putting in a DVD+R as that is not supported by your drive?

Then it could be an indication the drive is starting to fail. The track spacing on a DVD is much closer than on a CD so any laser/tracking errors would likely be experienced with DVDs first. You could try running a cleaning disc if you have one, also eject and re-insert the drive, but the only way to be certain is to try another drive, though I don't suppose you have one lying around just in case!
