Can't hear from Laptop Speakers

I'm have an old Compaq Presario 2700
and i installed Linux Mint 8, it's working gr8 accept that i can't Hear
from the speakers, only from the earphones plug if i plug in earphones.

Does someone has a suggestion on how to fix this?

Try typing alsamixer in the terminal and using the arrow keys check to see if any of he levels are turned down. Press q to exit

can you post the output of

Code: Select all

aplay -l

to see of that shows any errors?

If you are able to hear with the headphones,then try to update your drivers.If still problems then try to change your sound manager.may this will help you.
I think your laptop had a pressured above the speaker quit well once.such thing are the hardware related may it needed to checked by hardware export.
