Internal Mic not functioning - Acer Aspire 4736

I have installed linuxmint 9 isadora 64 bit OS gnome on my ACER ASPIRE 4736. The internal microphone is not functioning at all. I am able to listen to audio from my speakers.
I have checked the sound options and have made sure that mic is not in mute. Also in alsamixer, i tried various combinations of adjustments, still the mic is not working.

It seems that a lot of people owning ACER systems are facing this problem. Someone could please help us resolve this.

Hi All,

Found a fix for the problem. Now the internal mic is functioning although the sound capture quality is not very good. Alsamixer levels have to be set so that hissing is minimized.

Fix: Upgrade your alsa driver to 1.0.23
