CD Drive 'does not exist"?

Post by GigawareNerd »

I took some screws out of the bottum of my laptop, and very carelessly...did not put them all back in. my CD drive has been falling out, but recently i fixed it and screwed it back into place. My computer says there is a CD drive (i can tell because i light flashes on the drive when a disc is inserted/read from) but linux wont see the disc. usually itll show up on the desktop. also if i try to go to the cdrom0 drive in the Computer foler, it says: ERROR. Unable to mount cdrom0. mount: special device /dev/scd0 does not exist. I'm pretty clueless and i have 0 ideas of what to do? help me please.

All the flashing light on the drive means is that the drive is getting power, it does not mean the laptop knows the drive is there. You need to check in the BIOS if the drive is being seen, if not then it is not connected properly and you probably need to reseat it. If it is see if you can boot from it. If that works then boot back to Mint and post the output of dmesg | grep dvd entered in a terminal.
