Earphone not working

hi all.. im a newbie to Linux Mint, i just installed it yesterday and my headphone/ earphone isnt working when i connect it via the jack.. but the internal speakers seems to work fine.. i tried changing some settings but that didnt help.. could anyone kindly help me fix this problem? my lappy specs are given below

Model - Dell Inspiron 15R
OS - LINUX MINT 10 32-bit
Sound card hardware - HDA Intel
Chip - Intel Ibexpeak HDMI

Usually the first steps - having sound problems - are:
Terminal:

Code: Select all

alsamixer

choosing your sound card with F6;

pavucontrol

and

gnome-alsamixer
