USB device not showing

Hi everyone,

When I plug in my Sony sound recorder, LM does pick it up, but I don't know where to look for it. In my other distro, it puts an icon on the desktop. What is LM's way? Thanks.

A couple more things. lsusb does pick up the device. Also, I have removed all icons, other than the Mint Menu, from the panel. Do I need to add an icon to the panel to see the Sony device? Please help.
