Yet another Newb with a wireless problem - SOLVED

Post by bgadds »

Windows guru, Linux Newb here.....trying out mint 11 on my eee 1015pem.

just about ready to dump 7 starter for good if i can get 2 issues taken care of:

1st - Wireless works perfectly with eee plugged in....NADA on battery power. checked all power settings to no avail. heres what i am running:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation N10 Family DMI Bridge (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02)
00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 2 (rev 02)
00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 4 (rev 02)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02)
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02)
00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02)
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e2)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation NM10 Family LPC Controller (rev 02)
00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet (rev c0)
02:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe

Tried using a windows 7 driver, but that didn't work. been searching forums for a week and have seen others with same problem.....but no real solutions. keep reading about broadcom drivers, but that doesn't seem to be what i am running.

2nd - mint won't shut down correctly....hanging on something. have to force it everytime.

thanks in advance for any advice.....and please take it easy on the newb.....promise to return the failure here on the forums once i figure out everything there is to know about linux....give me a month or two.

That is odd.

Do you have the latest BIOS for that netbook?

Could be a ACPI problem, have you tried some boot option, "acpi=off", "acpi=force", "pci=noacpi", etc? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootO ... %20Options

Have you tried another kernel, like 2.6.39.1? Check here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=40185
(That kernel 2.6.38-8 has problems with my Eee 1001P)

Have you tried wicd instead of network-manager?

02:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
That's your device. The RT3090 works well but often has conflicts with more than one driver trying to claim it. Can you enter

Code: Select all

inxi -N
in a terminal and paste the output here? Then also

Code: Select all

sudo lshw -C network
and

Code: Select all

mintwifi

Sorry but I am on vacation and limited to my iPod touch so very challenging. Can you post the output of lsmod ? And you can do an advanced search of my posts for help with rt2860/rt3090 devices if u need faster info.

You need to blacklist all the rt2800 items and keep the rt2860sta. Do the advAnced search of my posts for rt2860 and just follow the blacklist steps.

Can you press F8 during shutdown to see technical messages?

Please add [solved] to the topic title (edit the first post) when you don't need more help with wireless. And if you get more problems with Mint, please open a new topic.
