Asus G53SW-A1 function keys

Hello everyone,

I just installed Linux Mint 11 “Katya” on my brand new Asus G53SW-A1 laptop and I noticed my function keys, for most, do not work. FN+F2 will enable/disable wifi card and FN+F7 will turn on/off screen display, but the rest (luminosity control, keyboard backlight control, sound control, etc.) are not working. I have searched the forums and Google, found https://launchpad.net/asus-keyboard-backlight but it's written at the bottom of the page that the module does not work with the G53SW-A1. Does anyone know how I can get the function keys to work and, if possible, the keyboard backlight?

Have you tried going into preference> keyboard> layout and seeing if the keyboard model is proper.

Edit: for the backlight issue i found a link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... ASUS+G51JX although its not the same laptop it seems to work for other models too.

Thanks Viper, I tried the second solution on the page (with new archive to download done by Berbe) and it does not work...I don't get any errors/exceptions but upon reloading acpid, the FN+F3 and FN+F4 keys still do not trigger keyboard backlight...back to step 1, can anyone suggest something else?

It did fix my volume and brightness using the link provided at the bottom of the forum post you gave me. The link takes you to another forum in which people discuss and debate the FN keys issue. A guy built a complete guide on page 6 and one even made 2 debian files that are supposed to fix the keyboard backlight. Everything works now except my FN+F3 and FN+F4 which are the keyboard backlight stuff. Maybe I followed too many tutorials and the debians wouldve worked I have no idea...I keep on searching =)
