Ati Remote Wonder

Hello,

I've got an ATI Remote Wonder RF remote control that I use with my TV tuner. I was using Ubuntu 7.04 and upgaded to 7.10 - that's when things went downhill...

Since the remote (and a bunch of other things) broke, I figured I'd check out some other distros and came across Mint. When booting the LiveCD, the remote worked, so I thought my troubles were over... I installed Mint and now the remote doesn't work again!

I've done some research and it looks like a lot of people are having trouble with Gusty and this remote, but most of of the hits I've seen involve using LIRC. I have no reason to install LIRC if I can get the remote working the way it used to natively with the OS, so I don't want to go down that rabbit hole right now.

Anyone else having issues? Is LIRC my only option?
