no touchpad found

Hi I have Dell Inspiron N5110 and my notebook has alps touchpad but my device is saying it 'PS/2 Generic Mouse' and when I start my computer synaptic or touchpad return me an error 'no touchpad found'.

How Can I fix it ?

Did you try Fn+ some of the F buttons (my Acer is Fn+F7) ?

This seems to be a problem specific to the touchpad used in this laptop (and others using the same ALPS touchpad, where it is seen as a PS/2 mouse). A kernel fix is coming in kernel 3.3 (see bottom few comments): https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14660

I'd suggest waiting for the 3.3 kernel. If you are on Linux Mint 12, you will have to enable level 4 and 5 updates in Update Manager to get kernel updates.

I checked 4-5 but nothing come with update . and I tried other links but not working =( I am using linux mint 12 kde pls help me

I have the same problem. Very frustrating. How soon will there be a fix?
