ATI Proprietary Drivers in Daryna KDE

whenever i install the ATI proprietary drivers via Envy i get weird characters on my screen, i have to use the restricted drivers, can someone tell me what the difference is between the restricted drives and the proprietary driver?
i have an ati pce express Radeon x600 adapter.
and i seem to be experiencing some video issues, when i use Kvirc the screen flashes and if i use mirc under wine, it crashes, which it never did when i was running Kubuntu
anyone have any suggestions?
im having a very difficult time getting and advie for both Linux mint as well as kvirc.

There is no difference between drivers installed by Envy or using the "Restricted Drivers" tool other than the version. With the latest version of Envy you are likely to get newer drivers
Unfortunately I have no experience of kvirc and mirc

Apparently there is a BIG difference, because when i use the ATI drivers (via envy) my whole screen gets alll messed up and i get characters and garble all over the screen, the restricted drivers work better, they arent 100% either but they aare better...
sadly linux mint has a allot of video issues in the KDE release..

I have not been following the bug reports very closely but i don't recall video problems "en masse"

i dunno, i tried installing the prop. drivers today, and now they work fine, the last 3 times i installed them (all fresh linux installs) i had probs..
the driver issue seems to be worked out somehow...only minor issue i have now is kvirc flashes/flickers it hasnt done it in the gnome ver of mint just this daryna kde and i also installed the latest ver os kvirc, but its no BIG deal, i can live with it..
BTW where can i see the list of known issues with daryna kde?

KNown issues with Daryna KDE will be published when the final version is out (one little quirk more to fix and the it's go, I hope)
en masse is french and means "a lot" or "in great numbers"
