Disable Tap-to-Click

Postby 2briancox on Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:40 am

I have LM 12 installed (+Cinnamon) and my mouse pad does not give me the option of turning off "Tap-to-Click". Nor do I have the options of disabling the touchpad while typing.

I was, however, able to add a notification area program that disables the touchpad when a mouse is installed. Touchpad-Indicator 0.9.1.6. And that did its job.

I also installed gpointing-device-settings. But that has very few options. See attached photo. I still cannot turn off the tap-to-click when using the touchpad. Nor disable touchpad while typing.

If you go to System Settings>Mouse and Touchpad>Touchpad tab Don't you have this?

If you don't I think you will have to use xorg.conf but that is not quite so easy.

No. That's exactly the problem. I don't have a touchpad tab across the top like you show.

So how do I change this through a command line method? Or anything else that works?

Mine actually looks like this:

It seems to think the touchpad is a mouse. Yet touchpad-indicator works correctly (disables the touchpad when a mouse is connected).

Maybe this helps:

I seem to have the same exact problem -- no Touchpad tab in the mouse settings or in the gpointing devices application, and a pressing need to disable the tap-to-click function. I'm using a new ASUS A53U laptop with a built-in touchpad, and can give any other stats that may be helpful in solving this.
