Microphone not working on skype

I cannot get a microphone working on skype. I'm on Mint 11 Katya, the webcam is 'Kinobo' everything works out of the box except the microphone. I've tried it with a headset & mike and still cannot get it working. Would be grateful if any could help.

Does the microphone work with other applications on your Linux installation?

Thanks for responding, the answer is no. One microphone is part of the webcam, the other is part of the headohones. Both are new.

Resolved, I bought a cheap stand alone microphone, set everything to analogue and tested until it came good. Thankyou.
