Lost disk space from mounted NTFS drive
Hello. I have Windows 7 64 bits and Linux Mint 16 64 bits (cinnamon) in dual boot. While in Linux I deleted a file of 11GB from a mounted Windows drive (ntfs). This file is gone, but the space reserved for it is still there, as if it had not been deleted. Does anyone know what happened?

Re: Lost disk space from mounted NTFS drive
may be you didn't perform a permanent delete. empty the trash folder in linux mint.
Re: Lost disk space from mounted NTFS drive
I already checked out this. Trash bin is empty.
Re: Lost disk space from mounted NTFS drive
how did you find out that the space was reserved for that deleted items?
Re: Lost disk space from mounted NTFS drive
Nevermind. I used the old chkdsk in Windows and fixed the problem. I have now my 11 GB of free space in that drive. What is the alternative for chkdsk in Linux?

IF by that you mean a version of chkdsk that runs in Linux to repair NTFS filesystems -- sorry, there is no such thing. What is the alternative for chkdsk in Linux?
Some folks will recommend ntfsfix -- but their website clearly indicates that it is NOT an equivalent of chkdsk.
