When my windows partition wouldn't mount I eventually fixed it with a GIU app for creating mount points, 'NTFS Config' I think it was called. I'm not in front of my Mint computer to check right now.

Have you tried adding an entry for the ntfs partition to fstab? something like

/dev/sdb4 /media/sdb4 ntfs defaults,umask=007,gid=46 0 1

My only suggestion would be to access that partition in windows and back it up in case something is failing on the drive. With the backup done you could then reformat the partition in windows to see if it fixes the invalid ntfs error when mounting in Linux.
