Brother MFC8640D

I am having problems figuring out how to add a Brother MFC8640D to Mint. I am using Linux Mint 13 32-bit and MATE. The instructions on the brother.com site are only for very old versions of Ubuntu, and I'm not even sure that's the right approach anyway.

Can anyone explain the right way to do this? The printer isn't automatically recognized (it should be!). How do I add this printer to my machine?
