I notice you don't tell us the model of HP printer/scanner you are using .....

I notice you don't tell us which version of Mint you are using ......you are using Mint? and whether it is 32bit or 64bit .......

I notice you don't tell us if you have looked at the SANE page ...........
SANE stands for "Scanner Access Now Easy"
http://www.sane-project.org/

............nor whether you have researched if SANE supports your model of device......... (because xsane is the GUI for sane............)

http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.h ... TT-PACKARD

...........because my hunch is that the scanner on your device will ONLY run with hplip ......

.....I am curious about the number of folks who post saying " I Have just installed the LATEST hplip................"

.............. because the HPLIP website says ............
Chances are, your Linux system already has the HPLIP software installed.

See this post here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 1&t=115652. It's for LMDE, but explains how to use HP Toolbox and will hopefully help you get this working.

I have solved the problem after much work. this is what I did . hope it helps other people. iT IS ON A HP COLOR LASER CM1415FNW

I first uninstalled all of my hplip.
downloaded (I put it on the desktop after downloading) and Installed hplip 3.12.10a manually in the terminal
the terminal method for us new to linux is in the following:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in ... index.html

also make sure your package manager has the hp cup backend installed.

hope this helps people. It took me awhile, but in the process I'm learning about mint and linux
Thanks everyone for helping. :P :D :P
