How to Add Printer via IP Address in Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon?

Postby scaramanga9 on Tue Nov 13, 2012 6:15 pm

I am trying to add a printer via IP address in Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon.

When I try to add a printer via the Add Printer Tool, I get a message saying

Code: Select all
FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp-client, and samba-client enabled on firewall.

How do I add a printer via IP address? Thank you.

Mint 14 is not yet released, post problems with RC as requested at http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2205

They may fix this when 14 Final is out but in the mean time see if the original ( Gnome2 ) printer utility is installed:
Code: Select all
system-config-printer

If not then install the package that has that utility:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install system-config-printer-gnome

And run the "system-config-printer" command again.

FirewallD is a RedHat daemon and is not present in Debian / Ubuntu / Mint. This is Gnome's fault not Mint's.
Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.
