HP OfficeJet R40xi can't print Normal Grayscale

Hello, all.

I am running Linux Mint 13 with Cinammon. I have an old HP OfficeJet R40xi. When I try to print some document from LibreOffice or a pdf in "Normal Grayscale," the printing doesn't go through, and the job just stops. If I want to print in "Normal Color," the printing goes through, but my printer reacts badly when printing in "Normal Color" (pink everywhere), so I need Normal Grayscale printing. Draft Grayscale printing works, but the quality is not good enough.

I have CUPS and hplip both installed. I installed the OS very recently.

Thank you and hopefully you can help me find a solution! :D

I'm running Linux Mint 14 MATE, and I have exactly the same problem with my HP OfficeJet R45. I would like to set the default to Normal Grayscale because we often don't have a colour cartridge installed, but any attempt to print with this setting eventually ends in an error: "Processing - Filter failed". Anyone know what's going on here? This worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04.
