HP 1102W was working, now not. CUPS server error

My printer no longer works. Mint 13 can see it OK. I can get to the properties screens, and see it enabled with a check mark etc.
But when I try to print a test page I get eventually a CUPS SERVER error.
here is the diagnostic output of the troubleshooter. The troubleshooter says it cant help and to report as a bug, which I did no GITHUB>
But there must be an easy fix; it used to work, even under MINT.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried to include all the output, but this board keeps saying too FEW characters. :(
So here is the last bit of the diag output.

What version of HPLIP do you have?
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo ... 1102w.html suggests a minimum HPLIP version of 3.10.4

If you're using a network connection, maybe the IP address of the printer has changed. Does it work again if you remove it (in system-config-printer) and then add it again? If yes, then it could be worth configuring a fixed IP in the printer. That can be done in the web interface by typing the current IP address of the printer into a webbrowser.

It is too far away to use the USB mode. used to work over wifi.

That was a good suggestion.
I thought I had tried that and it did not work. But I tried it again.
This time it did work.
The 'Test Page' printed, and so did a test file from Pluma Text Editor.
But the 'Self Test Page' did not print. It said submitted maintenance command but there was no output.
Still it seems to be useable now so I would say this is SOLVED.
To get a static address, I would have to setup the printer, to have a static Wireless address (is that possible?) and also setup the router to have one too.

Not sure why it changed. As I understand DHCP if the hardware has the same 'signature' i.e. MAC address, the DHCP server will try to assign the same IP address.
Anyway thanks for the help.

PS issue solved now, by removing and reinstalling printer.
Not sure why all the management screens reported the printer as ready, and enabled. You would think that if the CUPS could not connect it would say so in one of the status screens.
But everything looked super normal with green checkmarks etc.

Yes. I am running whatever comes with MINT 13. It turns out this is version 3.12
For some reason Ubuntu puts the HPLIP in the system tray but mint does not. I had to check the package manager to find out.

HP does not officially support network printing on Linux - it's often hit-or-miss. I still recommend to give your printer a fixed IP address, since in my experience it's more reliable that way (on a Photosmart c4780).

It is probably best to assure the IP address of the printer by using MAC binding in the router. Then, even if the printer thinks its address is W.X.Y.Z, the router will offer that address only to the printer.
