HP Laserjet 1022 - can't print double sided

Hey guys!
I'm running mint 14 and after successfully installing and printing single sided documents on a Hp laserjet 1022 I tried and failed to print double sided docs.

I've checked http://localhost:631/printers/ and the printer is properly installed. The driver description there states the printer can indeed print double sided but whenever I try to print something the option (in the print job menu) to print double sided is grayed-out..

Any idea what to do next? I have done some research on this but I can't seem to find a solution on my own..

Cheers,
F.

Click the queue name to get to the maintenance page. The printer defaults should list:

Code: Select all

sides=one-sided
Click the Administration dropdown and choose 'Set Default Options'. The 'Double-Sided Printing:' option should now be available. You probably want to flip on the long edge.

Hmm.. nops, not working.. I am not sure the printer is actually getting the commands: I found this screen on the job list menu.. which is kind of weird since I actually printed some docs last week..

On another CUPS menu I found this. Would this happen if CUPS were correctly installed? It's as it was out of the box. The thing I installed that I think could have messed up my set-up was the HPLIP thingy that didn't even work as it should have.. Soooo.. suggestions?

HPlip info, maybe check version you have and read vendor's info..

Would also depend on network status (connectivity), that is USB, Ethernet whichever it is or is available for that printer, that connection has to be working correctly to see the printer and give/get commands/results from such!

Some forum, problems (launchpad) issues with printing for HP 1100..

Additionally if a specific driver eg 1100 is not working well, an option is often to use another driver in the same family, sometimes the next printer model/driver version or one below the 1100, or switch to purely open source drivers (cups + openprinting..)

EDIT: After posting I noticed that this was an old thread but decided to leave this post in case anyone needs to refer to this thread in the future.

I checked and the HP Laserjet 1022 isn't a auto-duplex (i.e. (auto) double-sided) printer, it only does simplex (i.e. single-sided) printing. This means that you have a manual duplex printer, which means that you have re-feed the sheets to get double-sided printouts. First you print one side then re-feed the sheets to print on the second side.

However, I would recommend that you download and install Boomaga. With Boomaga installed and configured you can, with simple clicks of the mouse in the Boomaga GUI, control duplex and simplex printing to your heart's content. It also allows easy print-out of booklets or printing of several pages to one sheet. And you get a preview of what the print will look like before you send the print job to your printer. It's really good and I would recommend it to everyone. I have an auto-duplex printer but I still use Boomaga because it is so simple to select duplex/simplex printing from within the Boomaga GUI.

To install Boomaga follow the instructions given in the following documents provided at the Boomaga Wiki titled:

(1) How to Install Boomaga in LinuxMint or Ubuntu
(2) Things To Do After Installing Boomaga

Maybe Boomaga will solve your issues.
