Dell C1660w drivers
Can anyone tell me where to get the drivers for the Dell C1660w laser printer? I would prefer to have a wireless connection but I could use a cable. At the moment I can't get it to work

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
Dell do not supply easy linux drivers; (I saw on a recent post that their laser printers are made by Xerox: I cannot be sure of that).
from this old post
it maybe that the open source driver pxlcolor may be useful
http://www.openprinting.org/driver/pxlcolor
you can see on this page that you generate a pdf file;
I would have thought that if you edit the ppd file that comes when you select any of the printers............and just enter Dell C1660W for whatever was there before .........
if the downloaded ppd was Brother1234.ppd and was in the Downloads directory I would suggest
if we leave it to you to read through the instructions on this page for further details etc;
my guess is CUPS will be your friend:
http://localhost:631/admin
click on Add Printer; username is Root and password is your sudo password
(as in screenshot below): move on from this screen and it should allow you to register a ppd file; (that you will have edited in gedit )

cd Downloads
and then using the Find function replace the Brother1234 (or whatever is detailed...) with your Dell ...............gksudo gedit Brother1234.ppd

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
I don't know much about this, really, but was wondering whether you saw

on the Dell support page for the printer:Linux operating system - it is recommended that you use xpd file viewer. You can download xpd from http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf

The Xerox Phaser 6000B Driver works perfect in Ubuntu 13.10 - but only in 32Bit Systems

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
I got my Dell C1660w working in Linux. The program you need is called "foo2hbpl1":

http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/hbpl/
Dell C1660w works linux Mint with driver foo2hbpl1 or foo2hb
well done Dave; good work
can I suggest you go here http://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Dell and create an entry on this: it would help others greatly;
_____________
interestingly on Open Printing's list of drivers, http://www.openprinting.org/drivers the driver you mention "foo2hbpl1" is not registered anymore; foo2hbpl2 is listed http://www.openprinting.org/driver/foo2hbpl2/ as being aimed for the Dell 1355 and the Xerox WorkCentre 6015 Multifunction Printer (printer only).

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
Dave.
Thanks for the support. I did not manage to get my C1660 to work with Mint. I downloaded your patched version of foo2zjs and installed it. I can set up the printer using cups, but the jobs will be canceled by the printer. Where can I start to search for the solution?
Cheers, Peter
edit: I should say that I want to connect using wifi. My linux box is a mint16 64bit.

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
I have Linux Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit. My Dell C1660w printer works well with the driver Xerox Phaser 6000B.
Re: Dell C1660w drivers
and that is great; and very interesting; as I see the Xerox website says it is for 32bit operating systems; as a debian package; so great it works on 64bit
Re: Dell C1660w drivers
yep. As it is a 32bit package, I din't try to install it in the first place.
Re: Dell C1660w drivers
The Xerox Phaser 6000B Driver worked perfectly in Mint-17 as a wireless network printer. I download the Xerox zip file from the website listed earlier. After executing the .deb file, the 6000B driver was added to the list of Xerox drivers available to install when adding a printer in the Mint utility. After adding, and after attempting to print a test page a couple of times, it finally connected and has worked perfectly since. My wife was able to connect on her Windows-8 system afterward and we are now getting rid of two ancient USB-connected printers.
Re: Dell C1660w drivers
Xerox Phaser 6000B Driver works on MX Linux too. But you have to
or you'll see an error message "error while loading shared libraries: libcupsimage.so.2" in "/var/log/cups/error_log"
It took me a long time to figure out.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install libcupsimage2:i386

Re: Dell C1660w drivers
I installed this printer to Elementary OS today.
- Download driver Phaser 6000 driver from https://www.support.xerox.com/support/p ... uage=en_GB
Code: Select all
sudo apt install libcupsimage2:i386
- Go to http://localhost:631/printers/ and print a test page.
- Go to /var/log/cups and open error_log
- Found this line in the log:
Code: Select all
error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Code: Select all
sudo apt install lib32stdc++6
