Canon 9900f scanner driver for Mint Maya

Post by ErikW »

Completly new to and very happy with my new(be) Mint Maya 32bit installation, I ran into my first " bump" : How do I get my Canon 9900f scanner to work? Tried Xsane and simplescan, but they do not see the scanner. tried als both the Firewire as the USB connection. On the asian costumersite of CANON I found some scangear drivers, but they all seem for those all-in-one machines. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum Erik and linux and Mint; we hope you enjoy it all;

SANE is the open-source area for scanner support http://www.sane-project.org/

Seems like your device is 11 years old or more: sounds like a professional level and quality device; very well made with firewire connections; a very fine scanner; sadly, you will be very disappointed to hear drivers were not supplied then for linux; and sane shows your device as unsupported; no manufacturer seems to provide staff to go back and write for old devices; http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON

if you want to use the 9900F, a programme called vuescan may well support it; other options include second-hand scanners: we bought a CanoScan N650U for a few dollars and it has given excellent service; as you say, Canon's current multi-function devices offer scanning, and Canon supply a full range of linux drivers for them; ScanGearMP is the programme Canon supply to run the scanner;

Thanx for the vuescan tip. It came to me from several sides, and I happen to have a pro-licence for vuescan. Going to see if it works tomorrow.
