hello everybody
I'm moving from windows world to Linux and installed petra on one of my machines.
I have a Lexmark X6570 on it and used CUPS to see if there is any chance to have it working.
It was detected (USB connected) and seems to be installed properly to the limit that it does not print.
The job appears and goes off as if it's printed, but nothing goes out of the printer (not even a single reaction)
I've googled on the subject and it appears that this printer seems not to be supported by Linux.
I'm a bit puzzled as CUPS sees it properly.
Any help is welcome.
ps : I'm new in the world of Linux, but willing to learn.
JM

Re: lexmark X6570 mint 16
Unfortunately, Lexmark does not have a good reputation concerning compatibility with linux.
This might help:
http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdf ... /en/ug.pdf
The relevant portion:
Installing on Linspire, Debian, or Ubuntu Linux
1 Read “Before installing the printer drivers” on page 8.
2 Make sure you have enough hard disk drive space in /usr/local to install the printer driver.
For more information about finding more space, see “Finding space to install the printer drivers package” on
page 13.
3 Download the printer drivers package (print-drivers-linux-glibc2-x86.deb) from the Lexmark Web site at
http://www.lexmark.com/drivers.
4 Install the package file.
# dpkg -i /tmp/print-drivers-linux-glibc2-x86.deb
5 Run the following setup script to complete the installation:
# /usr/local/lexmark/setup.lexprint
Note: Your specific printer driver may not be included in the standard package. Check the Software and
Documentation CD or the Lexmark Web site to determine if there are any software plug-ins available. For more
information, see “Plugin Manager utility (software updates)” on page 31.

Hi there JM;
none of the links that used to work for Lexmark; now seem to connect; to allow one to access the printer driver they used to offer for linux; for their inkjet printers;
Lexmark no longer make or sell inkjet printers I understand;
best to pick up an alternate printer; second-hand or new; eg the Canon MG2100 series retail for maybe $US30 in some countries

Hi
Thanks for the recommendation.
I ll try to install the. Deb package and see if this solve the problem.
If it fails I ll probably try another printer
I ll post the result.

I am not sure you can find the deb package as the links all seem to be broken;
I think we have a copy on one of our older mint versions here; the file needs to be edited!!
as per this post (number 2 in the list) http://archbird.blogspot.co.nz/
...................so if you run the deb package from the link.............it stops and finds a fault...........
I think I have an edited copy there as well; (I had little to do that day)...........

Hello
Thanks for the updates.
The. Deb package can be found by searching the Web by its name.
I ll try this when back to the pc itself.
There is still an open question. How my system have installed something that seems to be a correct driver. When I've connect the printer and added new printer it was properly detected as x6500 series. Even the duplex system and other options have been automatically set.
And the systems detects correctly if the printer is on or not.
Does the installation error you've mentioned creates this situation ? (just for my understanding) .
Anyway, thanks again.
I'll give it a try.
