Epson WP-4535 printer/scanner & Linux Mint 17

Post by DavWav1966 »

Hi all
First time post. Installed LM17 Cinnamon on my lap top and it is working great. Very impressed.

One snag I have run into is that, although the printer works fine, I cannot seem to get my scanner working.

I've been to the Epson download website and downloaded and installed the following packages:

1. epson-inkjet-printer-201113w_1.0.2-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb (Printer drivers)
2. iscan_2.29.3-1~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb
3. iscan-data_1.29.0-2_all.deb
4. iscan-network-nt_1.1.1-1_amd64.deb

I installed these in the order suggested on the Epson website. I have also been to the users and groups and added myself onto the scanners group.
At each stage I've restarted the computer.
I have tried the following scanning programmes:

1. Image Scan! for Linux
2. Simple Scan
3. XSANE Image Scanning

None of these work. Seems as if the programmes can't detect a scanner.

I'm out of ideas. Can anyone suggest a solution, please?

Best wishes
Dave

Seems as if the programmes can't detect a scanner
one can check with
sane-find-scanner
and
scanimage -L
and then repeat prefaced with sudo

seems like there are issues with epson scanners and ubuntu 14.04 and mint 17; there are recurrent unresolved posts;

some suggest allocating a static IP for the device; then defining that in the file etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf ......using gedit as the text editor, the command would be
gksudo gedit etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf
and you likely to have an ip address originally entered.........that is likely changing each time there is a reboot

Dave, before installing the Epson packages, make sure you have the complete lsb package(s) installed. Has made a world of difference for 5 installations I did (LM17 and all Epson printers/all-in-ones).

Cheers

Thanks Robenroute

I'm fairly new to Linux so not sure what lsb packages are and how would I know I have them all? I update via the update manager everyday.

PDC_2 - sorry I didn't get back sooner but I've been pretty busy with work. Tried looking for SANE - their website says their software does not support my Epson - anyway, it couldn't find the scanner despite being turned on and I connected the laptop to the router via a cable this time.

I don't know how to assign a static IP to a device, currently searching online for docs, sites and vids to show me how to do that.

Best wishes and thanks for the advice so far

Dave, I know it's been a while, but just out of curiosity, were you able to get things running?
