Samsung ML-1670 Filter failed

Hi.

After disk failure I migrated from Ubuntu 12.04 to Linux Mint 17 32bit KDE:

Inxi output and error_log below (cannot add as attachment)

I installed printer-driver-splix, downloaded Samsung unified driver, used Add printer dialog in KDE and provided PPD file from Samsung zip file. Then print dialog said rastertospl is missing, so I copied it and made symlink to it, like I googled I should:

Then I tried to print a test page and got Filter failed in status message. Turned on debug logging for cups, but don't see anythign useful in error_log.

Any idea much appreciated.

error_log ignores my debug setting - tried debug and debug2, each time restared cups, no change in error_log:

[eanfrid]

This model does not support Postscript and the Samsung driver is not required. Hence you only need "printer-driver-splix". This is the only driver I use with my ML-2250. If you do not find your model in the list, select ML-1660 or ML-1650.
