Canon D530 Prints / Doesn't see scanner

Post by phillynewbie »

I bought this model after seeing that there were drivers provided by Canon for this model. When I installed the printer, the drivers appeared automatically. However, I cannot scan. Simple Scan and other software do not see the scanner. These are the same drivers I used successfully on the Canon MF 4150. I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me that I don't have to return the unit. As the user name suggests, I am very much a newbie. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

can you open a terminal;

and type

Code: Select all

lsusb
and hit the enter key; and can you copy the ID that it gives for your Canon please?

It is likely to say something like
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 04a9:26eg Canon, Inc.
..................it is those middle numbers
04a9:26eg
that are of interest

this user joined the sane-development lists; to see expert advice; they advised to add a ppa that gives access to latest sane versions

the command to add the ppa was

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git
and this is link https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+arch ... u/sane-git ............and after adding ppa

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

I have followed through on your suggestions. The scanner is now seen. But, in Simple Scan it says it has trouble communicating with scanner. In gscan2pdf it says the printer is busy. So, some progress, but no scan yet. Thanks for your continued help!

If it helps, I just ran sane-find-scanner -v and got:

This is sane-find-scanner from sane-backends 1.0.25git

# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

best join the sane development mailing lists; it is where folks like Rolf hang out; they are always keen to solve new problems; they would welcome you;

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/ ... sane-devel

tell them your issues and they are the best to tackle the issues; let us know afterwards how it goes
