I just stupidly wrecked my MP150 when the cardboard back sheet I was using to support legal size paper in the hopper got fed into the intake roller. Now it is disabled with the E3 paper jam error that I cannot clear. Some nice things about the MP150 is that it works right out of the box with the CUPS driver, Simple Scan, and Xsane scanners. Overall, this very low cost unit is very satisfactory in LM10 Gnome.
I found online that Walmart has the MP250 for the incredibly regular low price of $29. Since I need the printer for my business, I drove the 2.3 miles to get it the same day. Out of the box in LM10 Gnome it scans but there is no CUPS driver. I got and installed the Canon Linux deb driver and now it prints fine. Canon also has a scanner deb driver that I installed. It works nicely inside of Gimp but for speed I prefer Xsane. Xsane is missing the Lineart choice though, which I like to use when I can to keep the file size lower. SimpleScan has the Text configuration for scanning which is a lineart config. and it renders a very clean image of small file size.
With both the native CUPS on the MP150 and the Canon driver on the MP250, the only resolution choice is 600X600 or Manual.
I want, say, 300X300 and the related lower ink consumption and deposit. Can I get this and how?
I have installed the TurboPrint 30-day trial version and it does have the 300X300 along with other Windows-like printer control including ink levels. If one did a lot of printing, the ink savings would more than make up for the $42 purchase price.
