Test page not printed out with Mint 12 RC [SOLVED]

Post by taytong888 »

Hello,

This is my first post on the Linux Mint forum, although I have been a long-time user of Ubuntu, Kubuntu and openSUSE. I have a HP 5MP laserjet printer connected to my PC via a parallel port. Printing is fine with all these other distros. Yesterday I installed Mint 12 RC 64-bit. Today after installing hplip, hp-cups, hp-ijs and setting up the printer via System Settings > Printer >Add New, the system recognizes and shows my printer as HP_LASERJET_5MP but I cannot really print out a test page at all. The first page says:

Code: Select all

#CUPS-COMMAND
AutoConfigure
and nothing after these 2 lines. The second page is blank.

I would appreciate your suggestions.

:x

Hello,

Problem recapped: Printer recognized but doesn't print. Since Kubuntu 11.10 kernel 3.0.0.12-generic on the same machine prints, I don't think it's necessary to upgrade Mint 12 RC from the same kernel to 3.0.0.13-generic as suggested in some Ubuntu/Mint forums threads. My printer problem has been solved as follows:

1. Installation of 3 system-config-printer files (common, gnome, udev) in today's update;
2. Browser window: http://localhost:631
3. Admin >Add printer >Local printer >Parallel printer
4. Printer Name: HPLaserjet5MP (no space or / allowed)
5. Select printer manufacturer: HP
6. Select printer driver: hpijs pcl3, 3.11.7
7. In terminal: #service cups restart

Voila! Hope this is helpful.
