[UNSOLVED...] Linksys AE1200 Adapter not working.

Postby TehMouseh on Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:38 pm

I installed Mint 12 LXDE on an old HP Brio BA410 reciently as an experiment to see how far I could push it's limited hardware... But before I could do any thing like that, I discovered that no matter what I do, my USB wireless adapter does not work, not even with the Windows Wireless Networking Driver installed... The adapter is a Linksys AE1200. Can anybody help me out here?
EDIT: Problem is I can't connect to anything WPA2 secured. Forgot to mention this. :P Sorry guys.

According to http://www.wikidevi.com/wiki/Linksys_AE1200 that uses the Broadcom BCM43235 chip. Perhaps you need to install a specific driver for this.

Early last year that was problematic, as a driver was not available for the 4323x series (viewtopic.php?f=53&t=94670&p=542890&hilit=4323#p542890). Not sure of current status.

I tried finding the driver for that specific chipset, but all I found was a lot of stuff saying that "Broadcom drivers came with the Linux Kernel as of 2006", and no driver. Keep in mind, wireless is all I can do, with my apartment supplying free wi-fi, with no known areas to plug in for a connection, so looking through the software manager won't do for me until I DO get this old thing online...

More information is required in order for anyone to help further. With the adapter plugged in, open a terminal and copy/paste here the outputs of
Code: Select all

lsusb
lsmod

I have the same adapter and I'm having the same issue TehMouseh is having. If you guys got it working that would be awesome! :D
I can use the windows drivers to get the adapter working, but their seems to be a problem with connecting to a WPA2 wifi signal.

ndiswrapper doesn't list this adapter as one on their list however. :?

You'll need to use ndiswrapper for the moment. Broadcom is working on a Linux driver for the BCM43235 chip.

Edit. Is ndiswrapper-dkms installed?

Yes, that's a program to load Windows drivers for wifi dongles on Linux. You need to get the .inf and .sys files out of the driver, then you can add them in the Windows Wireless Drivers program in the menu.

Sadly there is no how-to for the Linksys AE1200 and/or its Broadcom BCM43235 chip yet on the website of ndiswrapper.
