If you have a problem with your wireless card, make sure to run mintWifi and to paste the result with your question:

In a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

zen@zen-linuxlaptop:~$ sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

This is because you don't have the latest mintwifi installed (you're probably running Bea without the Bianca repo right ?).

You can either follow these steps :
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=724

or wait for the 20th until the stable version of Bianca is released.

Well you're not supposed to run that as a command, but to add it to your /etc/apt/sources.list file....

to edit this file you can type:

Code: Select all

gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
then append the following line in the end of the file:
then run the following command:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install mintwifi
then you're ready to run mintwifi:

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py
Et voila :)

There was a warning saying the package could not be authenticated.. you're supposed to say "y"... and press enter. You have to reinstall again:

sudo apt-get install mintwifi

Note: take more time to read the messages returned by the commands and more time to understand what the commands do.

i tired to find drivers like posted in the mintwifi manuscript but the best I could find I wasn't sure, then I got stuck on how to unsip or unpack the stuff --I think I unsipped it in terminbal after 25 minutes of trial and error, but not sure what driver to use and what is the driver due to many things included in the folder. I posted for help but no replies so I left it there.

no what please...if I could get this running I'd be happen - sound would also be nice but wifi is key for me KEY!

thank you Clem and be patient. I am new, pristine, neophyte to lnux

That's it. This tool gives a complete diagnostic so people who want to help you setup your wireless card already have a lot of info about your configuration.

From what I can see you've got two network interfaces (you might want to unplug your ethernet cable and run mintwifi again) and your Wifi card is recognized.

Clem did everything you said and still notta. i sent the laptop back. I did not like getting hung up trying to et linux going and also wireless and even sound. Mint is a great Distro and better and cleaner than ubuntu but linux is not ready for humans - just supergeeks.

if you have an idea of a decent laptop that would work correctly in Mint then please advise.

I wish you wouldn't have helped me to get these 2 issues resolved. ig you are the guy behind Mint than you could have gotten this **** going in 15 minutes or so,

instead of frustrating me for pounding my head against the wall.

I am back to my macs. dying to get linux going and to give it another try. but this was a very taxing experience. i spent 15-18 hrs a day for 5 days trying to resolve 3 issues. notta was resolved. can't waste any more time.

you have an awesome distro despite the fact I was left hanging trying to resolve these 3 relevant issues.
