[SOLVED] Trying to make TP-Link TL-WN722N work

Postby hb1547 on Sat Aug 18, 2012 4:08 pm

I have a TL-WN722N wireless USB device that's worked fine with Windows, but I've had some trouble getting to work with Linux (it probably doesn't help that this is my first real foray into Linux).

Using compat-wireless I installed ath9k_htc, where my device is listed as supported.

Checking the Kernel Modules, I even see "ath9k_htc" on the list.

However, running "iwconfig" returns "no wireless extensions":

Code: Select all
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

However lsusb shows the device:

Code: Select all

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:c31c Logitech, Inc. Keyboard K120 for Business
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0e41:4153 Line6, Inc.

Any ideas?

Figured it out! Here's what I did:

- Downloaded compat-wireless, used to install ath9k_htc.
- Downloaded the firmware linked to above, copied to /lib/firmware
- I had to move the Wifi adapter to a USB 2.0 port, as the 3.0 ones weren't working with it -- this is why it wasn't working earlier.
- After that, I was able to ping IP addresses but not domain names, so I had to manually edit resolv.conf and set nameserver.
- Now it works!

hey

im checking this device and it shows no gain of wireless signal , the led light ticks and then stops for a while and ticks again , everything is detected but it doesnt improve anything .

i supossed that i got the ath9k driver on the kernel , but i dont know about the ath9k_htc driver. for what is compat wireless?? i just checked and i have the ar9271 firmware on lib/firmware.

I just wanted to know if you can help me with a step by step explanation of what u did, im a linux newbie so its kind of difficult resolving this issues about using external devices.

Im using mint 13 xfce with the 3.2 kernel version
