[ SOLVED ] How to get wireless working? Broadcomm B4318

First, I'm supposed to post a paste of the results of mintwifi, but that machine can't connect to the internet, except when running another dist, so I'll just summarize it here:

Part I scanning wifi pci devices
Finds a Broadcomm BCM4318 with PCI ID 14e4:4318

Part II querying ndiswrapper...

part III querying iwconfig...
lo no interface connections.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:off/any
blah blah blah

part IV querying ifconfig...
lo blah blah blah

part V querying DHCP...
--------------
part VI querying nslookup...

If you need any more of this information, I'll copy it down and post it from this computer.

I've added the network, with wep keys and all.

If you left click the network icon on the lower right, the top, greyed out, say's 'wireless networks', and under that, greyed out is 'device not ready (firmware missing)'

I've piddled around all through the control center, searched apropos, the documentation, the forum, and the web, but the only thing I've found suggests that I install windows XP drivers for the card.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? How can I get this machine connected?

Thanks Wyrdoak, that did help. Didn't have time to do it until tonight, but here's what I did:

#obtain the following from ubuntu
b43-fwcutter_015-9_i386.deb
#that is a program to cut firmware out of windows drivers

#I also got the following per the instructions, but I think mint has a good version of patch
patch_2.6.1-3_i386.deb

#also get the following files (proprietary drivers)
http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl ... 130.20.0.o
http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broa ... .5.tar.bz2

#install fwcutter:
sudo dpkg -i b43-fwcutter_015-9_i386.deb
#install patch
sudo dpkg -i patch_2.6.1-3_i386.deb

#extract the broadcomm drivers
tar -xvjf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2

#cut the firmware drivers out of the apsta drivers with fwcutter
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o

#cut the firmware drivers out of the broadcomm drivers with fwcutter
sudo b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware/ broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o

#issue a couple of modprobe commands to install the drivers
sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb
sudo modprobe b43

#I tried the "additional drivers" in the control panel, but it didn't find anything.
#but after a couple of minutes, the wireless just started working.

#I also copied the drivers from /lib/firmware/b43* to a hard drive partition, so's I'd have them around after I get this distro installed on the hard drive.
