Tata Photon USB modem not working - Mint 12 Lxde

Postby milkfloat on Sat Nov 10, 2012 7:12 am

I am running a dual-boot laptop with Windows 7 and Mint 12 Lxde as primary OS. My new Tata Photon Huawei EC156 works fine in WIndows, but does not function in Mint.

It is detected in network manager and set to connect automatically, but will not connect. It is not detected in file structure as a USB device, so I can't install as instructed in user manual.

I have also tried this fix:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1814583

but I cannot open Nautilis; error displayed as follows:
sudo: nautilus: command not found

so I have been unable to complete that fix.

Any suggestions? I'm running a Toshiba netbook; Windows 7 is waaaaay too slow and Mint Lxde is perfect operating system apart from this problem!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

just a note on this: lxde uses pcmanfm as default file browser and not nautilus.
so your first command should be
Code: Select all
gksu pcmanfm
and then follow the UF topic steps.

Success! Thanks for the advice zerozero, everything appears to be connecting now using that command. :D
