Very slow internet connection

Of late( last 2 weeks) I notices a radical drop in internet connection speed in Linux Mint Cinnamon 13 (64 bit).
I use a usb wireless connection, BSNL EVDO Prithvi, Model UE 1000. It used to work allright, but now everything is dead slow. Even thunderbird is unresponsive sometimes. I thought this is a bandwith issue, so checked in Windows 7, the thing works just right in Win 7.

Can you please help me resolve this? I really like LinuxMint Cinnamon, since I installed it I do not even login in Windows.
