Mint 13/ 3945ABG problems

Hello,
I installed Mint to my secondary machine (a laptop - Asus F3Jc) back in summer. Wireless worked perfectly fine...
..until recently.
Basically, my problem is that something makes the Wireless signal quality decrease - up to the point where I get terrible speeds or even random disconnects from time to time. I tried various solutions that I found on the internet (like installing wicd), but nothing helps.
Also, after scanning, wicd reports the signal strength at around 50 percent. After connecting it shows 60, later drops to 50. If it drops to 40, the problems start.

I should probably mention that right now, the signal is at ~40% and kinda-somewhat slow. Not enough for 720p YouTube videos.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but it just increased to ~50% and I am watching a 720p video right now. Also did the mintWifi thing again:

I seem to have fixed the problem. I moved the router plug from the cord extender directly into the plug, and it works now.
I didn't take the fact that I upgraded the desktop a ~month ago and the power drain, obviously, increased.
Not for long though
I am taking it's a router issue, then? Because restarting it appeared to have worked. For some time, at least.
Hmmm. It's been working for the last ~2 hours perfectly fine. Perhaps that
was a solution.
I'll continue using the same setup tomorrow and report back.

So here I am: confirming that it's not a router thing. A different laptop works.
Rebooting the router works, but for a limited time. That time varies highly, from a couple of minutes to a few hours. Sometimes it just slows down, sometimes it disconnects completely. The first one happens more often, though.
I am completely lost right now. This single problem is ruining the whole Mint experience for me: even though everything was perfect for a few months.
A reinstall perhaps?
Or if all else fails, switch back to Windows... Which would suck.
Anyone know something?
