HP Pavilion G6 Wireless, Won't Turn on In Linux Mint

Postby michaeljwjr on Wed Nov 21, 2012 2:55 am

Or any other version of Linux. Worked in Windows before I removed Windows 8, now in any version of linux I've installed I get nothing. The F12 button is supposed to control it, and I am getting nothing, the light stays orange. Has anyone been able to get this working in linux?

I'm quite sorry, how would I go about this? I have the same issue as the OP.

I looked everywhere for a tutorial.

@ Communist, please open a new topic. It's quite well possible that your laptop does not have an RT3290 wifi card.

I still have the rt3290 and it still does not work. I've even updated my kernel to 3.7 and 3.8. mintwifi works just fine, but any browsing I do locks up my computer.

@ michaeljwjr: If you manually installed a driver (like the one I linked) you need to install it again when you have switched to a newer kernel version.
Please download & install the RT3290 driver I have linked in this topic (I don't care on which kernel version you're doing it, but remember that it only installs the driver into the kernel that's currently running).

I've done that on each individual kernel, same issue on each kernel.

I've given up on getting it to work in Linux Mint 14 and ubuntu 12.10. I'm sure it works in Mint 13, but I just dropped down to Ubuntu 12.04 and it's working flawlessly now.

Will give it some time before upgrading again.
