My laptop recently shutdown suddenly and when I turned it back on I had no sound and no network devices available. Also the "Connection Information" is greyed out when I right click on the network button on the menu.
I am using my university wireless network and I do not have a wired connection so I have to try to solve this problem from the computer lab. I will try to get permission for wired access but it is somewhat of a bureaucratic process and I don't know how long it will take. This has happened once before recently, and I reinstalled Linux Mint and everything worked fine -- for about a day and a half.
I ran mintWifi as instructed in the "Before you post..." thread. I cannot copy the results since I am on a different computer but here is what seemed to be noteworthy:
I. Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
II. no results
III. no wireless extensions
IV. Link encap: Local Loopback
inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0
inet 6 addr: ::1/128 Scope: Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU: 16436 Metric: 1
no errors listed RX and TX packets and bytes
V. no results
VI. 'connection timed out; no servers could be reached'
I am running Maya, MATE, 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
Thanks.
